Lots Of New Books!

PersuasionIt seems that as soon as I take the pressure off myself for writing new posts, the ideas and opportunities come back in a flood.  :)  However, I do love books and I really want to write all about the new books I've recently bought.

About a week ago, I ordered a Complete Jane Austen from Chapters.  It's hardcover with gilt edges.  I waited eagerly...and waited...and waited.  Finally it came - squeeeee! It's absolutely gorgeous and the font isn't too small (just enough to be interesting).

Before I received the aforementioned book, my dad and I went to Chapters to see if it had arrived yet (it hadn't).  I wandered around, looking at the bargain tables and I noticed a beautiful, paperback wedding book - Wedding Inspirations.  It was only two dollars and it has so many great ideas.  Just amazing!

But the best is yet to come.  Yesterday, my family (and me!) went to a used bookstore that was having a fifty percent off sale (and the books in there already have rock-bottom prices).  I wandered around for about five minutes and then I stumbled upon...bliss.  Stacks and stacks of classic books...Great Expectations, Sense and Sensibility, The Brothers Karamazov (ok, I didn't give that a second glance), Hard Times, Wuthering Hights...  I looked through great stacks of books, inhaling their 'used' scent and handling each with great care.  After all, even if they're used doesn't mean they're worthless.

Old Books

I had a limited supply of money ($6) so I finally selected four books with great care...but wait!  There was still a couple of dollars left.  As I was scanning the shelves again my mom called.  And her hands was a book (surprise!).  The title?  Darcy's Story.  It's a retelling of Pride and Prejudice told from Darcy's point of view (but not in first person).  It was pretty much new so I added it to my stack (I later found out that books that look like new seem to warp in the hot sun - even if they're paperback) - the stack which also contained...Bleak House, Our Mutual Friend, Jane Eyre and Persuasion (pictured at the top - it's the exact copy I have and the cover is a joy and delight to the touch).

To conclude: I got Bleak House, Jane Eyre, Persuasion, Our Mutual Friend and Darcy's Story for six dollars, a Complete Jane Austen for ten and a Wedding Inspirations for two.  Lessons learned: Almost new books seem to warp in the sun.  Great entertainment can be purchased for great value.

P.S. A review of Darcy's Story shall be coming shortly.  My birthday is tomorrow.
P.P.S. I believe this post was just an elaborate excuse not to do any writing.
P.P.P.S. I just got a new haircut.  Let me know what you think.

Yours truly,
